Ladies and gentlemen, at your right you can see the highest spot of the Sea of Cortez. At your left: the desert. Desert/sea, sea/desert. I’m at the north end of the Gulf of California and just in the middle of two ecosystems. But Rocky Point (Puerto Peñasco) still has a little bit of paradise: little time and little space.

In my head I can picture two acts: before and after the resort complex. Before, the hippies crossed the border and came here to play guitar by the bonfire. After, now, the same hippies come, but to buy timeshares or apartments for their retirement years, just by the sea where they won’t have to worry about nothing but their pleasant last days.

As in any other Mexican beach, on one side there are is the lap of luxury and on the other, well, just there is none. Those who cannot afford a golf game or a motorcycle race (in the middle of the desert), doesn’t have neither sewage nor water - because the water treatment plants are owned by a hotel!!
I found no signs of bonfire or guitars. I was kicked out of a beach because it was part of the real state of a condo which is for sale. I ate delicious filets with garlic and breaded shrimps. I had a bite of stingray and it wasn’t bad at all. I asked who Eduardo Bours is and now I have several hypotheses: governor, businessman, investor…all in one.

Finally, I walked until I found a place where there was nothing but sea or desert. In Rocky Point there are no so many mosquitoes yet, but soon there will be enough room for them to dwell. I see it really clear, in the future of the condos and hotels constructions, there shall be a great ecosystem for multiplying their buzz.
